COLOR OF THE YEAR

COLOR OF THE YEAR | 2024

Each year, Pantone, along with the leading paint companies, releases their Color of the Year. The selection process for a Color of the Year is arduous and requires teams of researchers and a significant financial investment. The color typically reflects the societal mood for the year ahead and, in the case of Pantone, has applications beyond the realm of paint and interior design.

We have put together a report outlining these colors and highlighting how they are being used specifically in interior spaces. Though most of the Colors of the Year spotlighted in this report come from paint companies, we veered off-script and explored applications of these colors in art, stone, lighting, tile, and furnishings.

We identified a few common themes. Most Colors of the Year doubled down on positivity and warmth, with many specifically seeking to create community and belonging through color. The past few years have seen a shift in design from cooler neutral tones to warmer neutral tones, and most Colors of the Year are positioned to straddle that transition. This flexibility is a key theme, as we also see the colors working well as neutrals themselves.

Cheers to a colorful 2024!
