As with most multi-family renovation projects budgets are tight and wish-lists are long. Atlanta is experiencing a major design leap from the classic heavy traditional interiors that blanketed the city not too long ago to the transitional and modern national shift. The challenge at Stoneleigh, as well as all the other similar interiors around the city, are the extremely traditional bones of the buildings. Given budget constraints we decided to capitalize on some of these elements and give them a fresh new twist, resulting in one of our favorite looks; when tradition meets modern and strikes a careful and interesting balance between old and new. We painted all of the heavy stained millwork a light linen color, including the carved fireplace surround and utilized a once heavy unapproachable wrought iron gate that now feels like a fun garden gate and is now an asset to the interior as opposed to an eyesore. We put the money into the floors eliminating many different dated and patched flooring breaks which shows an interior’s age. This is often crucial to updating and transforming a space. Residents and staff are re-energized. People are once again using the spaces which one of our greatest goals; making the spaces functional and inviting!
